Mana works her magic

The giving of love is an education in itself, said Eleanor Roosevelt. And Mana Shetty seems to live by these words. Busy with caring for her kids and the kids of Save The Children NGO, Mana has been organising Araaish, a fund-raising jewellery exhibition, since the last three years. "When I get the opportunity, I love being a housewife," she says of her juggling her time between her design studio, charity work and her home. She talks to CS as she gives finishing touches to her prep work for the event:

WHO: Mana Shetty
WHAT: Talking about juggling her various duties
WHERE: Blue Sea, Worli

Shopper's delight
The NGO was founded by my mother, late Vipula Kadri, 20 years ago. She passed away three-and-a-half years back and my sister Isha, brother Rahul and I couldn't just let the cause die. And so we came up with this idea. Shopping is the perfect platform for women to indulge and contribute towards charity. The idea has been a big hit.

We are family
My kids, Athiya and Aahan do a lot for these children. Athiya spends a lot of time with the mentally challenged kids and also participates in marathons to raise funds, while Aahan does computer programmes with the hearing impaired kids. The Save The Children India's school is close to my kids' American School of Bombay at BKC. And these NGO kids have free access to Athiya and Aahan's school's library, English programme and other facilities.

Suniel and I have also always supported cancer patients and charity platforms organised for them. In fact, I fully use the status of a celebrity wife to my advantage. When I say that I'm Suniel Shetty's wife a lot of doors open up easily. I'm proud to be his partner and help him in all of his projects.

Positive take
But besides charity work, I love spending time designing clothes. I visit the designing studio thrice a week and when I get the opportunity, I love being a housewife. But when you are passionate about something, it takes up a lot of time. I guess time management is the key to finding some time for self.

I've taken up this new form of aerobics --aqua aerobics --that I'm quite enjoying. I practise it for an hour thrice a week and then get my dose of fun by watching films with my kids and being a regular mom. I believe that if you have a positive attitude towards life, everything gets very easy. You should just listen to yourself and trust your intuition as a wife, friend or as a mom and you'll see that life is truly beautiful.
