Before I talk about this avoidable at any rate film, I really want to know how the Censor Board gave this film a U/A certificate. There is a courtroom scene in the film where the characters openly demonstrate with a needle and thread metaphor while talking about the sexual act of rape. It talks of lubricants and contraceptives and if you haven't still managed to get the idea, it further emphasises on the lubrication part when an actress in the film sucks on a thread. Ugh.
Did the Censor Board not understand the "subtlety" with which this was shown or did it prefer looking the other way while the film bandied about its in-your-face insensitivity about the issue of rape?
This film, supposedly a satire, is laughable. A failed lawyer (Raghuveer Yadav) is out to defend an imprisoned rape accused but goes about doing it in an unbelievably crude and stupid fashion. Half an hour into the film, you are hoping that someone puts Yadav behind bars if that would shut him up. Meinu Ek Ladki Chahiye is a film full of dumb people who are going around acting smart. There is Yadav who seems to have strangely started believing that screwing up his face is great acting, policemen who are too dumb to even trace a man who harasses women with his mobile phone, a spectacularly daft industrialist (Yatin Karyekar) and other assorted characters who don&rsquo;t deserve a mention. And yes, there is also mandatory item number, a sex bomb of a maid, a half-kilo-make-up-on-her face pimp, a pair of lovebirds to prance around and more.
I am sure someone came up with a 'meinu ek film chahiye' thought in a post chicken tikka-dinner lethargy and this is what came out of it. Wish he had dozed off instead.
