Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum-opus historical drama, 'Padmavati', which was scheduled to release on December 1, 2017, got caught in a political storm, thus delaying its release. The film features Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji. The film's release was opposed by fringe groups on the accusation of distorting historical facts. Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali was even mobbed on the film's set and dismantled the sets. A delay from the filmmaker's end to submit the movie to CBFC for certification further brought obstacles in the film's release. The film is currently with the Central Board of Certification (CBFC) and there is constant speculation about its release.
