Singer Payal Dev who has lent her voice to films like ‘Shershaah’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, ‘Baaghi 2’ besides music videos like ‘Genda Phool’ with Badshah featuring Jacqueline Fernandez, is back with a Navratri track, ‘Halo Re Halo’ with Mika Singh. The song features popular TV stars Sharad Malhotra and Helly Shah. Payal speaks to mid-day.com about her latest track, Durga Puja celebrations and more.

How did ‘Halo Re Halo’ come to life?
‘Halo Re Halo’ is a festive song and I had never done a song for Navratri. This is my first garba track and is very special to me. It’s a peppy track that will coax people to get on the dance floor. The song is composed by Aryan and amazingly sung by Mika Singh. Sharad and Helly are my favourites, and I’ve had two songs with Sharad in the past. We had met on the sets and he’s an amazing human being. Helly is very sweet and I used to keep getting messages on Instagram that I should do a song featuring Helly so I had been following her. So, when this song came my way I suggested we shoot it with Sharad and Helly because they are everyone’s favourites, I’m glad we could collaborate with them on this song. The video is directed by Adil Shaikh who had to shoot it at short notice. Adil bhai’s videos are always colourful and bright with a positive vibe. I have also danced in the video which I’m doing for the first time, so I’m really excited about this one.

What are your plans for Navratri and Durga Puja this year?
I’m celebrating Navratri with family after two years because of the Covid situation. Being a Bengali, Durga Puja is a big festival for us so I’m definitely going to enjoy this year.

Your last song ‘Baarish Ban Jaana’ featuring Shaheer Shaikh and Hina Khan went on to become popular…
‘Baarish Ban Jaana has been my favourite since the time I had composed it. Initially the lyrics were different and we later changed it to a rain situation. I love '90s music and it is in my blood, so whatever I create has a '90s feel to it. The song has become a rage and I realise a song with good melody always works. Shaheer and Hina looked amazing onscreen and they are superb in person as well. I hope to do more romantic tracks with them or may be a sad song.
