Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s Tu Meri Main Tera has found itself in hot waters amid its release. Lyricist Anand Bakshi's son, Rakesh Anand Bakshi, called out the makers of the film for the credit attribution to the lyrics of the new remix version of the song Saat Samundar Par in the film.

Rakesh Bakshi calls out TMMT makers

The original version of Saat Samundar Par, from the 1992 film Vishwatma, was composed by Viju Shah and sung by Sadhana Sargam and Udit Narayan. Anand Bakshi had penned the lyrics. In the credits roll of its new remix version, the makers of the Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday starrer have credited the lyrics to Anand Bakshi and Karan Nawani.

Taking to his Instagram handle, Rakesh Anand Bakshi argued that the producers and publishers should not claim co-lyricist credit for adding only one or two lines to the original lyrics, as visible on the music streaming platforms.

He wrote, "The producer and/or publisher should not claim credit for any writer, singer, etc., as co-lyricist for adding one or two lines to the original lyrics; like they've put original/additional music in the credits, they could have done it with the lyrics too. This is the format which is currently used on streaming platforms."

Rakesh Bakshi called for a "reform" in the credit page of the song. "They need to reform it. ASAP. It's 2025 today, not 25 CE, that they can't effect reform ASAP," said Rakesh Bakshi.

The remix version of Saat Samundar Par is sung by Karan Nawani and features Kartik Aaryan performing alongside the popular dance group Quick Style.

About the film

Tu Meri Main Tera is a rom-com directed by Sameer Vidwans and shows how love-on-vacation takes an emotional and heartbreaking turn for Ray and Rumi. It is set for a Christmas release. The film also stars Neena Gupta and Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles.

Ahead of its release, Trimurti Films had sued Dharma Productions, Saregama India, and rapper Badshah over the alleged unauthorized use of the iconic 1992 song. Trimurti argued in court that a 1990 agreement with Saregama's predecessor only granted limited "mechanical rights" for making records and cassettes. On the contrary, Dharma Productions argued that the song was used in the film as per the existing licensing terms. After hearing both sides, Justice Sharmila U. Deshmukh rejected the plea to stop the song from being used or to halt the promotions of the film.
