A generation that has grown up watching reruns of 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' (1995) will get a glimpse of modern-day romance with Aditya Chopra's 'Befikre'. But, lead actors Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor insist they aren't the new age Raj and Simran.
"Dharam and Sairah will create an identity and appeal of their own. They have lived in a different decade. Their ideas on romance and relationships are fundamentally different," says Ranveer, pointing out how the last bit of the trailer makes it clear that the '90s was a different era.

"This film is reflective of the way the youth understands relationships. There is a generation shift since then. Eighteen-year-olds in India are more comfortable with their sexuality now. They are well aware of who they are, and have clarity on what they want from life. This is the Tinder generation and 'Befikre' is not far from what this generation represents," he adds.
Director Aditya Chopra, who was conspicuously missing from the trailer launch, has given love a fresh twist, Ranveer asserts. "This ain't no 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'. When people watch the film, they will know why this is an Aditya Chopra film. The treatment is different, but the soul is the same. They are two frivolous people and it would be presumptuous of the audience to seek depth here. Who knows, this could be a time-pass film," he says.
Vaani says the only similarity between their characters and Raj-Simran is the relatability factor. "They are a contemporary couple and each one of you will identify with them. I play an independent, strong, level headed girl. She might seem obnoxious and frivolous, but she is Befikri. When she falls in love, she falls hard. When she breaks up, there is drama along with tears, but she gets over it and moves on," she says.
Ranveer says his character Dharam is a cutie patootie: "He is crazy, maha wannabe and attractive, but unaware. He is a girl crazy, all-heart chap."
