Actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra stepped out in the city on Thursday for the teaser launch of her upcoming film KD – The Devil. At the launch event, which was also attended by other cast members of the Kannada-language film, Shilpa was asked to weigh in on the ongoing Marathi language row that has gained prominence in the state.

Shilpa Shetty's reaction on Marathi language row

While responding to the question, Shilpa chose not to comment directly on the controversy but asserted her Marathi identity. She said she wouldn’t encourage controversy during the promotion of a film.

Shilpa said, “Me Maharashtra chi mulgi aahe. Aaj humlog baat kar rahe hain KD ke baare mein. Toh KD se hatke abhi aap kisi controversy mein jaana chahte hain toh hum uska badhaawa nahi karenge. Yeh picture already ek multi-lingual hai, isko hum Marathi mein bhi dub kar sakte hain.”
(Translation: "Yes, I’m a girl from Maharashtra. Today, we’re here to talk about KD. If you want to get into controversies beyond KD, we won’t encourage that. This is already a multilingual film; we can dub it in Marathi too.")

Shilpa on her role in KD- The Devil

Shilpa revealed that her role in the film is an ode to her mother, Sunanda Shetty, and marks her first retro-themed performance.

“This is the first time I’m working in a film with a retro look. My character, Satyavati, is an ode to my mother—how she used to look in the 70s, with bouffants and polka-dot sarees. I truly enjoyed working on it and hope the audience will like it,” she shared.

She further added, “All the best to the entire team—KVN Productions, Venkat sir—thank you for your faith. Good films are not just made with finances; they succeed when there is soul and passion, which KD – The Devil definitely has. We hope you enjoy it.”

Shilpa Shetty Kundra will be seen sharing screen space with Dhruva Sarja, Sanjay Dutt, Nora Fatehi, Ramesh Aravind, Reeshma Nanaiah, and V Ravichandran. Her first look and teaser glimpses have generated excitement among fans, eager to see her in a retro avatar.
