Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg left the state the morning after his sudden and tragic passing away in Singapore on September 19. Zubeen was reportedly attending the North East India Festival in Singapore, where he went swimming off St. John’s Island during a yacht outing. According to reports, he fell victim to a fatal accident while scuba diving, which led to his untimely death. Despite being rushed to Singapore General Hospital, he could not be revived. The incident shocked everyone in India and beyond, leading to protests, FIRs, and a high-profile investigation.

Now, the island appears as Zubeen Garg Island as a tribute to the singer on Google Maps. The renaming has struck an emotional chord with fans across the globe, who flooded social media with screenshots, messages, and tributes.

The move also underlines the singer’s far-reaching influence, ensuring that his legacy remains alive not just in Assam but across international shores.
