Kundan knew his characters very well and, hence, he was a very exacting, meticulous director. He was a taskmaster and made us do take after take to get a scene right. Also, his movies reflected the simplicity of his heart.
I had been in touch with him, and spoke to him a few weeks ago. We kept telling him, Kundan, we are waiting for your next movie, and he would say, "Suchitra, everything has changed so much.” His genius couldn’t cope with the times we live in. His filmmaking was very different.
