Zoya Akhtar-directed The Archies is the talk of the town for the right reasons. Headlined by Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Dot, Mihir Ahuja, Vedang Raina and Yuvraj Menda, it is based on the popular Archie comics. The trailer of the musical released on Thursday and received a thumbs-up from the industry and audience.

The iconic Archie comics have been an important part of childhood. Over the years, filmmakers have adapted the story and created films using a similar plotline. Karan Johar also confessed in his book, An Unsuitable Boy, that he was inspired by Archie to make Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In a snippet shared by Diet Sabya, a paragraph explained the influence the comic had on the film.

A paragraph read, "Then I narrated the scene about the chit. I improvised on the scene while I was narrating it. I said. She gets "Maa and she stumbles, the
cant say anything and then the father comes and starts saying that a mother is this, a mother is that. Your mother is your shoulder, she's your support, she's your strength. But a mother is someone we don't have. But we have me, and that's more than enough for the both of us."

It continued, "As I narrated it, Shah Rukh got very teary. I think he was thinking of his own mother. I had struck the right chord, and I myself got moved by the whole narration which I had just thought of while talking to him. I remember sitting on the white marble stairs of Rambach or whatever palace it was in Jaipur, narrating the story that I had had no idea of until moments ago. "I'm doing this movie, said Shah Rukh. 'You should make a love story. Tell Kajol."

"I came back to Mumbai. I spoke to Kajol about it. She said, "Yeah, whenever you're ready, I'll do it." I started thinking: both Kajol and Shah Rukh have said yes to me; are they mad? But they were quite serious. Shah Rukh had given me dates as well, October 1997."

With the hero and heroine finalized, I finally started the process of writing. What else could I do? Months passed, nothing happened. But by the end of the year, I had to narrate a story. So I left for London for a long stay. Before I left, I met Adi, and he said, 'Why are you making a film about a father and a dead mother? Make a young film, you're a young bay, it's your first film. What is this father and dead wife and child?'" the anecdote read.

"I was very taken up with Archie comics. I told him I had this idea which was about Archie, Betty, and Veronica. A tomboy kind of girl, this other girl, and a guy. So he said, "Yeah, write that." I went to London. I was trying to write the first half about Archie and the two girls, but I kept chinking, what happens in the second half. I spent two months in London. 1 had discovered the city earlier and loved it. I lived in a rented apartment."
