Sushant Singh Rajput is riding high on the success of 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story'. The film is not one of the highest grossers of 2016, it also made it to the long list of 336 feature films contending for Best Picture Oscar.
In an interview with <a href="http://www.hindustantimes.com/bollywood/had-i-been-offered-befikre-i-wouldn-t-have-done-it-sushant-singh-rajput/story-mzkZXYqNY3m49BgKbyX71I.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Hindustan Times</a>, Sushant has put dowm Ranveer Singh-starrer and Aditya Chopra-directed 'Befikre'.
Asked if he had been offered the YRF film, Sushant said, "Let me clear it once and for all. I was never offered Befikre. But had I been offered, I wouldn&rsquo;t have done it."
He went on to say, "If the same production house is offering me a niche film like 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshy' (2015), I would do it because Dibakar Banerjee (director) has a different interpretation of the old classic; and I would do a 'Paani' where Shekhar Kapur (film-maker) will be raising a very important and immediate issue&hellip;"
The actor added, "If Befikre was representing the new-age youth of India and romance as what it was claiming, it would have been great irrespective of the box-office numbers. But unfortunately, it didn't do that and hence I would not be interested."
Sushant used to be a YRF talent, but the association soured after he felt that the production house was promoting Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor over him.
Talking about his reported rivalry with Ranveer, Rajput opined, "It's probably because we are about the same age and also because I opted out of the old management (Aditya Chopra's company) and he (Ranveer) decided otherwise, and so some comparisons can be made. But I feel the choices we young actors make will be a differentiator when it comes to films that are made, our respective careers and the taste of our audience."
The statements seem to suggest that he is taking a dig at Ranveer over his choice of movies and Aditya Chopra over 'Befikre' not being a true representation of new-age India.
