Haven’t we all rooted for Shah Rukh Khan’s Raj as he says ‘Palat, palat’ to Kajol’s Simran in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)? Over 25 years later, the iconic sequence has been given a quirky spin by Varun Sharma and Janhvi Kapoor in Hardik Mehta’s upcoming horror comedy, Roohi. While a section of netizens can’t get enough of the hilarious twist that plays out in the final moments of the trailer, Sharma is eager to know his cine idol’s response to his rendition. “I hope Shah Rukh sir laughs when he sees the scene. I am an ardent admirer of his work. I was so excited when I came across this sequence while reading the script. ‘Palat’ is one of the most iconic scenes in Hindi cinema. I wanted to stick to the essence of the original sequence as much as I could,” says the actor.

Purists often argue that a film’s classic moments are best left untouched. Quiz Sharma on it, and he says, “If an iconic scene [is revisited], it is done as an ode to the original. [There’s no harm] if it is done in the right spirit and fits well in the context of a film. We have all grown up on classics, and want to incorporate their magic in today’s times.”
