Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone opened the new season of Karan Johar's much loved talk show Koffee With Karan. The couple who got married in 2018 spoke in length about their relationship and their love story. Talking about the initial days of relationship, Ranveer Singh passionately described his first meeting with Deepika Padukone on the show.
Ranveer Singh revealed that he met Deepika Padukone for the first time at Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Versova home, close to the sea. She was there for the reading of their first film together - 'Goliyon ki Raasleela - Ram Leela'. Ranveer recalled Deepika looked 'angelic' when she entered through the heavy doors of Bhansali's house with the sea wind flowing through her hair. "I was sitting at the table and the door was there. He has these heavy doors and he lives by the seaside. So these heavy doors open and the gush of wind comes from the sea. And there she is in a white chikankari, like this embodiment of simplicity,” Ranveer said.

Post the episode, netizens dug out an old video from Koffee with Karan when Ranveer made an appearance with his 'Band Baaja Baraat' co-star Anushka Sharma. During the episode, while describing his first meeting with Anushka, he had narrated a similar story. He said how he was mesmerised by Anushka after watching 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'. "The huge doors open and of course since it was a huge door, wind flies in my face and right in front of me is Anushka Sharma," Ranveer narrated to Johar.

Meanwhile, Ranveer and Deepika spoke about the timeline of their relationship and how they secretly got engaged in 2015. We met in 2012, started dating, and the shooting of Ram Leela commenced. So half into 2012 and 2013. It was during the filming of Ram Leela that this was all happening. We were making an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. So there was this fire and Mr Bhansali was only too happy to fan this fire. It would be so apparent," Ranveer said.
Ranveer continued, "Ram Leela happened and we're in this and when I felt the moment was right, I decided she is the one. Before anyone sweeps her away, main jaake chappal rakh deta hu. Before anything can happen, just put the ring on it. I put a diamond ring which was beyond my resources at that time but even so, an impressive one. I was in cahoots with my sister and mum acquiring the ring. We (Deepika and he) were going to take a holiday and I decided to propose to her on the holiday. I got the ring and my folks were like, "Are you going to propose?" I was like yes. They asked, "Are you not consulting her parents?" I didn't have that degree of maturity. I said, "No, I'm marrying her, so will ask her." We went to the Maldives and I secretly carried the ring with me. We did the sandbank adventure. A boat takes us out in the middle of the sea and there's just one tiny sliver of sand in the middle. There's an infinite sea around you. You can spend quality time on that sliver of sand. After the boat left, there was just me and her. I was like, "This is it, I have done it." This is the perfect scenario."
He added, "I admit that I phasaoed her. I said I wanted to make the proposal scene picture-perfect so that she'd be compelled to say yes. We were on the island, I popped the question and she didn't expect it. She got emotional and she said yes. I felt like the king of the world."
