Ya Ali singer Zubeen Garg’s demise has left everyone shocked. Assam CM and authorities are leaving no stone unturned to investigate the real cause behind his death. So far, 4 arrests have been made in the case and even Zubeen’s wife expressed faith in law. Now, Zubeen Garg's cousin and Assam Police DSP Sandipan Garg was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the singer's death in Singapore last month, a senior officer said.

According to official sources, the arrest took place shortly after Sandipan Garg appeared before the SIT at the CID headquarters in Guwahati for questioning. He is expected to be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court later in the day.

Sandipan Garg, who is the cousin brother of the late singer, was reportedly aboard the yacht in Singapore where the incident leading to Zubeen's death occurred. He had earlier stated on social media that he had "fully cooperated" with the SIT during a marathon interrogation session earlier this week. The arrest marks another major development in the high-profile case that has gripped Assam's public and cultural circles for weeks.

"We have arrested Sandipan Garg. Now, we are doing the necessary legal formalities," CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta told PTI. "Our team has taken him to a court here. We will seek police remand," another senior officer said.

About Zubeen Garg’s death probe

This is the fifth arrest in the case. Earlier, North East India Festival chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer's manager Siddharth Sharma, and his two band members - Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta - were apprehended.

The four others, who were arrested earlier in connection with the case, are now in police custody. Days after his death, a band member, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, accused Siddharth and Shyamkanu of poisoning Zubeen. He also made stunning claims, claiming that he witnessed Siddharth acting suspiciously in Singapore.

For the unversed, Zubeen Garg died in Singapore on September 19 while swimming in the sea. He had gone to the Southeast Asian nation to attend the 4th edition of the North East India Festival, organised by Shyamkanu Mahanta and his company.
