The actor revealed Season 3 will explore the king’s internal reckoning. He calls it a “big journey of self-discovery", and shared that Aegon will be questioning his identity and motivations while discovering the darker corners of his psyche. Tom shared, “I think what we start to see in Aegon as we go through this story is this quest for an understanding of who he is and why he is the way he is," noting that this shift in Aegon’s role will offer a more layered portrayal of the character.
The actor also stated that the upcoming season will also be shedding light on such areas of Aegon’s character that were otherwise shadowed and hidden in dusty corners within himself, saying, “So it’s a big journey of self-discovery… That’s how his arc seems to be coming together as the tapestry keeps being woven."
Ageon II's character in Season 2
Notably, in Season 2, Aegon was seen as a chaotic character. The narrative of his character was characterised by immaturity, rash decisions and insecurity. Although it was entertaining, there was little to no portrayal of emotional nuances. This absence made the audience question the depth of the character. Aegon’s previous deeds may be unforgivable for many, but in Season 3 audience will get a glimpse at a realistic, humane portrayal of Aegon.
