Still from Project Hail Mary

Ryan Gosling is back on a mission to save humanity in the brand-new trailer for Project Hail Mary, the high-stakes sci-fi thriller from visionary filmmakers Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Lego Movie). Arriving in theaters across India on 20th March, 2026, the film is part of the international theatrical distribution partnership between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment, ensuring a major global rollout, including India.

Plot of Project Hail Mary

Based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel (The Martian), Project Hail Mary follows Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), a lone astronaut who awakens aboard a mysterious spacecraft with no memory of his mission—or his identity. As fragments of his past begin to resurface, he discovers the planet-saving task that brought him here: confronting a cosmic threat that could extinguish Earth’s sun. The new trailer also introduces Rocky, the groundbreaking alien and Grace’s unexpected companion, a central figure who brings emotional depth and becomes key to the mission’s survival. Armed with ingenuity, scientific grit, and an unlikely companion, Grace might not be as alone as he thinks.

The project was announced in 2023.

About Andy Weir's novels

Weir's novels are particularly popular for film adaptations in Hollywood. Weir's first novel, The Martian, was self-published in 2011. The story follows an American astronaut stranded alone on Mars in the year 2035. The film adaptation, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon, was released in 2015 and became a massive box office success and earned seven Academy Award nominations.

In 2017, Weir published his novel Artemis, about a woman named Jazz, a directionless twenty-something constrained by her small town Artemis -- the only city on the moon. With debts to pay and a salary that barely covers her expenses, she can't say no when a life-changing opportunity drops in her lap. Fox and New Regency bought the film rights and got Phil Lord and Chris Miller to direct the project.

More about Project Hail Mary

The film features a stellar supporting cast including Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub. Written by Drew Goddard and produced by Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Aditya Sood, Rachel O’Connor, Andy Weir, and Ryan Gosling, Project Hail Mary promises a gripping blend of adrenaline, emotion, and interstellar spectacle. Sony Pictures Entertainment India releases Project Hail Mary in cinemas on March 20, 2026 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in IMAX and other premium large formats
