Song Young-Kyu found dead

According to a Maeil Business Newspaper’s report, Song Young-Kyu was found unconscious in a vehicle parked at a townhouse in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, at around 8 AM on Sunday, August 3, 2025. The locals reportedly alerted cops that the actor was found unresponsive inside a parked car in Yongin.

A source reportedly told Koreaboo, “He was distressed by the malicious articles and comments, and the circumstances were extremely unfavourable at that time.” He is survived by his wife and two daughters, who are yet to issue an official statement after his death. The cause of his untimely death is yet to be ascertained.

Song Young-kyu's drink and drive case

In June this year, Song was involved in a DUI incident in Yongin, reportedly driving five kilometres with a blood alcohol concentration high enough for license revocation under South Korean law. He was referred to prosecution without detention. In the aftermath, Song stepped down from the stage production of "Shakespeare in Love" and was removed or minimised in two dramas airing at the time - ENA's The Defects and SBS's The Winning Try, as per Variety.

The actor had shot for The Defects. The team of the film had issued a statement stating that his screen time would be restricted following the controversy.

It was 1994 when Song made his stage debut with the children's musical "Wizard Mureul" and built a steady three-decade career across theatre, film and television.

He was best known for supporting roles in projects including Trick, Stove League, Baseball Girk and Hyena.

His appearance in Extreme Job -- one of the highest-grossing films in Korean cinema, which cemented his status as a reliable character actor with a knack for dry humour and gritty realism.
