Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan's warm hug at the Coolie trailer launch in Chennai won hearts, highlighting mutual respect between the two stars. The action-packed trailer teases a gripping story of friendship, loyalty, and revenge, with the film set to release on August 14
Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan
The city of Chennai witnessed nothing short of a festival on Saturday with the trailer launch of Coolie. The makers organised a grand event to unveil the trailer of Rajinikanth’s next film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The launch was attended by the cast and crew, including actor Aamir Khan, who has a cameo in the film.
Aamir Khan and Rajinikanth's sweet moment
Aamir Khan made a stylish entrance at the event, sporting the same rugged look he has in the film. He was seen with tattoos on his arms and wore a black tank top with denims, just like his character in the movie. The crowd erupted in cheers as he walked into the auditorium for the launch event. Superstar Rajinikanth entered last to a thunderous welcome. Dressed in a black kurta and denims, he was greeted with a standing ovation. While Shruti Haasan, Anirudh Ravichander, and Lokesh Kanagaraj touched his feet in respect, actors Nagarjuna and Sathyaraj greeted him with warm handshakes.
However, the sweetest moment came when Aamir Khan stepped forward to touch Rajinikanth’s feet. The senior actor gently stopped him and instead pulled him in for a warm, affectionate hug. This mutual display of respect between two icons truly won hearts.
About the Coolie trailer
On its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sun Pictures, the production house behind the film, posted, "Deva Countdown Starts! The most anticipated #CoolieTrailer is out now! #Coolie releasing worldwide August 14th."
The trailer opens with a voiceover, "I am someone who believes that as soon as a person is born, their forehead bears the name of the person in whose hands they will die."
Another voice, trembling with fear, adds, "If it becomes known that a man can be removed from the world without leaving a trace, it can be a disaster."
A third voice, presumably that of an investigating officer, says, "I don’t think their growth is solely due to this network. They are doing something huge inside."
Next, we see actor Soubin Shahir addressing a group of workers at a port, "Among the 14,400 people here, I need that one coolie."
The trailer then cuts to Sathyaraj delivering his signature mocking laugh, saying, "For thirty years, I have been keeping someone offline. If he gets to know..."
He then confronts Rajinikanth with the line,"Who asked you to come over here?"
A touching conversation follows between Shruti Haasan and Rajinikanth. She says, "You are used to living in solitude. He was just your friend. But he’s our father."
To which Rajinikanth responds, "Super. He may be your father, but he is my friend."
The trailer offers glimpses of intense action sequences and a layered emotional plot.
From the trailer, it’s evident that Rajinikanth plays a close friend of Sathyaraj who has been living under the radar for years. When he learns that his friend is in grave danger, he steps in despite opposition from Sathyaraj’s daughter, played by Shruti Haasan. What unfolds next forms the crux of the film.
Coolie is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on August 14.
