Kannada actress Chaitra was abducted
In her complaint to the police, Chaitra’s sister, Leela R, noted that the couple got married in 2023; however, they had been living separately for the past seven to eight months due to domestic disputes. The actress had then reportedly moved into a rented house on Magadi Road with their infant. Meanwhile, her husband, Harshvardhan, was residing in Hassan. During this period, Chaitra continued working in television serials.
Officials reported that the suspect, Harshvardhan, operates Vardhan Enterprises and reportedly works in film production. Meanwhile, subsequent steps in the investigation will be determined by the outcomes.
How Chaitra was kidnapped
According to reports, on December 7, Chaitra informed her relatives that she was heading to Mysuru for work-related filming. Authorities are of the opinion that this may have been orchestrated. The complaint claims that Harshvardhan gave Rs 20,000 upfront to an accomplice named Kaushik, who allegedly brought Chaitra to the Mysuru Road Metro Station at around 8 am with help from another individual. From there, she was then allegedly forced into a vehicle and transported through NICE Road and Bidadi.
At around 10:30 am, Chaitra apparently succeeded in contacting her friend Girish, who then quickly informed her relatives about her whereabouts. Later that day, Harshvardhan allegedly called up Chaitra's mother, Siddamma, and acknowledged the abduction on the call. He further insisted that the child be delivered to a designated safe spot in exchange of Chaitra's freedom. Subsequently, he reached out to another family member and requested that they bring the child to Arsikere, while assuring them of Chaitra's safe release.
Relatives, who had been in different locations, such as Tiptur and Bengaluru, gathered together and contacted law enforcement. Authorities have opened a case following the complaint and are currently conducting an investigation.
