Malayalam cinema's legendary superstar, Mohanlal's mother, Santhakumari Amma, has died at the age of 90 after suffering from prolonged illness. The 90-year-old reportedly passed away at her son Mohanlal's residence at Elamakkara, Kochi, today.

For the unversed, Mohanlal's mother had suffered a paralysis attack over a decade ago, and was reportedly undergoing treatment at the actor's Kochi residence for a long time. Mohanlal was reportedly by his mother's side when she breathed her last. She spent a significant portion of her life in Thiruvananthapuram before moving to Kochi with her son.

Santhakumari Amma was the wife of the late Vishwanathan Nair, a former law secretary with the Kerala Government, who passed away in 2005. She had another son, Pyarelal, the elder brother of Mohanlal, who reportedly passed away in 2000 after suffering from a massive heart attack.
She celebrated her 90th birthday on August 10, 2025, in Kochi in the presence of her close family and loved ones. According to the latest updates, Santhakumari Amma's final rites will be held in Kochi, Kerala, on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
Mohanlal's close bond with his mother
Mohanlal is deeply attached to his mother and often vocally expresses his close bond. Despite his busy professional schedule, he made it a point to prioritise time with her. He had earlier said that it was a blessing to share his achievements with her. Interestingly, after learning about his Dadasaheb Phalke Award, his mother was the first person he visited to share the news.
During a previous interview with Kairali, Mohanlal emotionally spoke about his mother, saying, "When my mother speaks, it's not clear now. But we can understand. In the past, whenever we were shooting in Thiruvananthapuram, my mother would come and see us. She would ask me why I was fighting like this. The fight scenes were very dangerous."
During the Mother's Day episode of Bigg Boss Malayalam 6, which he hosted, he had expressed his sentiments about his mother, saying"Amma, just like a tree which gives shade and chillness.
