The proclamation ceremony of the 'Murajapam-Lakshadeepa' festival at the famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple here was held at the East Nada of the shrine on Thursday. Members of the erstwhile Travancore royal family, Gowri Parvathibai, Gowri Lakshmibai and Aditya Varma, handed over the proclamation chart to actor Mohanlal at the ceremony.

He read out the proclamation, which states that the 'Murajapam-Lakshadeepa' festival at the temple will be held between November 20 and January 14 next year. Murajapam is a 56-day-long ritual held once in six years at the temple. It involves the continuous chanting of the Vedas and 'Vishnu Sahasranamam' ( a hymn of a thousand names of Lord Vishnu). Around 200 Vedic scholars will participate in the chanting.

The festival culminates in the 'Lakshadeepam' on the 'Makara Sankrama' day on January 14, a grand event when the temple will be illuminated with 1 lakh oil lamps.

Mohanlal's work front

The superstar had a great year at the box office in 2025. He started the year with L2: Empuraan, which proved to be the biggest blockbuster in the state. The film, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran saw Mohanlal return as Stephen Nedumpally and his alter ego Ibrahim Qureshi. The film, despite mixed reviews, became the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever.

Mohanlal followed a grand film like L2: Empuraan with a rooted film like Thudarum. The film was touted as a comeback of Mohanlal as it reminded one of his early day performances. Directed by Tharun Moorthy, the film drew audiences to the theatres with midnight shows displaying the houseful signs. The film created history by becoming the first Malayalam film to cross Rs 100 crore at the Kerala box office.

He will next be seen in the film Hridayapoorvam directed by Sathyan Anthikad. The film will be released in theatres on August 29 for the Onam week.  It is based on a story by Anthikad's son Akhil Sathyan. The film also features Malavika Mohanan, Sangita Madhavan Nair, Sangeeth Prathap, Siddique, Sabitha Anand, Baburaj, Nishan, Lalu Alex, Janardhanan and S. P. Charan.
