Veteran South Indian actress B. Saroja Devi passed away at the age of 87 at her home in Malleswaram, Bengaluru, due to age-related illnesses. She wished to donate her eyes.

In the Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada cinema industries, Saroja Devi contributed to more than 200 films. 'Abhinaya Saraswathi' and 'Kannadathu Paingili' were the titles she was given during her career. The 'first female superstar of Kannada film' was another title she held.
The Indian government awarded her the Padma Shri in 1969 and the Padma Bhushan in 1992. She also received an honorary doctorate from Bangalore University and the Tamil Nadu government's Kalaimamani Award.
Many celebrities penned heartfelt condolences for the veteran actress. Actress Simran Bagga wrote, 'The iconic Saroja Devi amma is no more, but her legacy in Indian cinema will remain eternal. I was blessed to share the screen with her in Once More, a moment of pride that feels even more precious today. My deepest respects and prayers, may her soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.'
