Television actor and host Arjun Bijlani's father-in-law, Rakesh Chandra Swami, died on Thursday, January 1, 2026. He was reportedly admitted to the ICU for three days and had been on a ventilator since Monday evening. However, hesuccumbed to the medical emergency on Thursday morning. He passed away at the age of 73.

According to a Hindustan Times report, a family member of Arjun and Neha told the portal, "He was fit and fine, set to have dinner when suddenly he suffered a stroke and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was on a ventilator. The entire family is in shock, as Neha and Arjun had met the family before flying off. It was a sudden shock, and we are all still grappling with the situation."
The report also mentioned that Arjun was very close to his father-in-law, since his own father passed away quite early. Earlier on Father's Day, Neha had shared a special post and wrote, "Happy Father’s Day to my daddy. I’ve always admired the way you loved, led, and protected our family. I always hoped Arjun would learn from you — your strength, your patience, and the way you make fatherhood look like a blessing..A father’s love is the foundation of a family, and yours has shaped who I am and what I seek in the people I love. Thank you for being the example every father should strive to be. Love u daddy."
Rakesh Swami is survived by his son, Nishank, and daughter, Neha.

Notably, Arjun and Neha were in Dubai for the New Year holidays. However, they had to reportedly cut their trip short and hurriedly rush back to Mumbai on Tuesday to be with Neha's father who suffered a medical emergency. The couple tied the knot in 2013.
Earlier, Arjun had revealed his New Year's Eve plans with Times Now, sharing that he had just begun shooting for Laughter Chefs season 3, which left him with no major plans. However, he assured that he would still enjoy a nice dinner with Neha and his son, adding that his resolution for the coming year was to become a better version of himself.
