Avinesh Rekhi on playing Mahadev
For Avinesh Rekhi, who essays the sacred role of Lord Shiva, the transformation begins long before the camera starts rolling. Rather than relying solely on costumes, dialogue or physicality, the actor believes the essence of Mahadev can only be portrayed by first cultivating inner calm. To achieve this, Avinesh has made meditation an essential part of his daily routine, using it as a tool to align his thoughts, emotions and body with the spiritual depth required for the role.
Sharing insights into his preparation, Avinesh explained that Lord Shiva’s true power lies in his stillness and balance. “Mahadev’s strength lies in his stillness. To portray that calm and balance on screen, I felt it was important to cultivate it within myself first. Meditation has helped me slow down, centre my thoughts, and maintain the posture and composure the character demands,” he said. According to the actor, this inner discipline allows him to remain fully present during filming, particularly in scenes where silence and restraint convey more than words ever could.
Talks about meditating
Avinesh added that meditation has helped him handle emotionally intense sequences with greater ease. “It allows me to stay fully present on set, especially during emotionally intense or silent moments, where Mahadev’s power is expressed through restraint rather than words,” he shared. Over time, this mindful practice has become second nature to him. “This practice of doing meditation has become an integral part of my preparation, helping me seamlessly embody the serene yet powerful aura of the deity before the camera starts rolling,” he added.
As Gatha Shiv Parivaar Ki – Ganesh Kartikey continues to unfold, Avinesh Rekhi’s meditative approach clearly reflects on screen. His portrayal of Mahadev exudes peace, authority and depth, reminding audiences that true divinity is often conveyed through silence, stillness and unwavering inner strength rather than grand gestures alone.
