Dipika Kakar is now on targeted oral therapy to prevent recurrence. While gentler than chemotherapy, it has caused side effects like mouth ulcers earlier and now severe hair loss

Dipika Kakar, who has bravely shared her struggle through stage two liver cancer, has revealed a new difficulty in her recovery. In a recent video, the actress confessed that she has been experiencing extreme hair loss as a side effect of her current therapy. At the same time, her husband, Shoaib Ibrahim, has been ill since her cancer diagnosis.
Dipika talks about the side effects
Dipika noted in her vlog that, while her most recent medical findings, including blood tests, were normal, dealing with hair loss has been emotionally challenging. She said, "I mentioned that the blood report has come back normal. However, what's affecting me at the moment is the hair loss I've been facing as a side effect. Every time I see my hair fall in huge numbers after a wash, I get shocked."
She also provided her audience with a glimpse into her personal life, showing Shoaib resting due to illness. Ruhaan, their son, tried to lighten the mood by playing doctor and pretending to give his father injections. Meanwhile, Shoaib assured fans that Dipika's health is progressively improving and thanked them for their love and support.
Dipika had earlier shared a detailed vlog on her target therapy; the therapy's side effects were quite serious, as she also had mouth ulcers during her first round of the therapy. Dipika has been taking care of herself and taking precautions with the therapy.
Dipika's health problems began earlier this year, when recurrent stomach pain prompted medical examinations. A CT scan in May 2025 found a tennis ball-sized cancerous growth in her liver's left lobe. The diagnosis was stage two liver cancer, with the tumour being aggressive and poorly differentiated.
All about her cancer
In June, she had surgery to effectively remove the tumour. While she was confirmed tumour-free following surgery, doctors advised targeted oral medication to lower the risk of recurrence. While less harsh than standard chemotherapy, this treatment has its own set of adverse effects, including ulcers and, most recently, hair loss.
Dipika most recently appeared on 'Celebrity MasterChef'. However, she had to leave the show midway due to an arm injury caused by intense physical exertion. Gaurav Khanna ended up winning the season.
