Actor Kunwar Amar Singh is currently in the spotlight for his new show Dil Dhokha and Desire, where he plays a pivotal role alongside Akanksha Chamola and Ali Hassan. In an exclusive chat, the actor opened up about breaking stereotypes, staying relevant across platforms, and reacting to recent controversy.

Speaking about his career choices post Anupamaa, Kunwar shared, “Break is not done through acting, it is done through projects. After Anupama, I did my resume on Hotstar. Then I was waiting for something like this to come because I didn't want to do again a character which is connected to dancing again.”

He admitted that being strongly associated with dance became limiting. “It was a very awful call to try to break down the stereotype because everywhere that I have been doing my acting job, somewhere the character is connected to dance. So that was an attempt and finally it started to happen.”

In Dil Dhokha and Desire, he plays Shaurya, a layered and emotionally conflicted character. “My character's name is Shaurya. He is basically a small town boxer in UP. He has big dreams to become a state level and international champion. He wants to represent his country,” he said.

Describing Shaurya’s emotional depth, Kunwar added, “He has big dreams to change his life and his mother's life because he had a toxic father and he did not have a great upbringing. Shaurya is a very complex character because he has so much going on in his life and he is someone who believes in doing things morally right.”

On staying relevant, the actor emphasised versatility. “I think it's very important for actors to keep on working on different platforms and different projects. Whether it's a web, it's a film, it's a TV. Because that is the kind of thing which will show how versatile you are. If you are not working in all mediums, people might tend to forget you… TV is turning into OTT, OTT to film. And then the circle keeps on going on.”

Reacts to the controversy with Akanksha Chamola

Addressing stereotypes linked to his dance background, he said, “I don't blame anybody for providing me that kind of work. We have dominated the dance industry so much… the first thought that they get is us for dancing. But now as actors it is our job only… It’s a two way street.”

Reacting to media controversies with Akanksha Chamola, Kunwar didn’t mince words. “Today in our world journalism and media has just become picking up things and writing in a way where people can get views. You cut out one sentence and you just put it out. It will go viral.”

Calling it a passing phase, he concluded, “Today we are talking about us. Tomorrow a new topic will come… There is nothing to be taken seriously.”
