Pooja Banerjeee aka Rhea Mehra from Zee TV’s hit show Kumkum Bhagya speaks to mid-day. com about joining in as a new cast member on the show that has been running since 2014, her onscreen image, Diwali preparations and more.

How do you spend your days when you aren’t shooting for Kumkum Bhagya?
Today is my no makeup day. I have my laundry days and I make lists of what groceries to buy, besides tending to my plants. That’s something I enjoy doing. So my day-offs are very normal. I also love cooking and cleaning. I was in Bangalore till yesterday and reached Mumbai only at 1am. I still woke up early and did my meditation. I made my grocery list in the flight itself and now I’m preparing for Diwali by making four different types of laddoos, over the next four days - Balushahi, Kachagolla, Nariyal ladoo and Besan ladoo. I’m excited for Diwali this year.

Considering a lot of your roles have had grey shades or are negative, what is the feedback you get from fans?
When people meet my husband, they ask him ‘how you deal with her’ (laughs). That’s okay, people don’t know the real me.

How did you feel when Kasautii Zindagi Kay 2 ended abruptly?
I bonded very well with the Kasautii... gang and somehow I believe when you get along very well, such things happen.  I was upset and shed tears when I found out about the show wrapping up. I knew that we would keep meeting, so that made it a bit easier. Yesterday, I called Shubhaavi Choksey, then at night, messaged Erica Fernandes.

How have you settled into Kumkum Bhagya?
Honestly, I’m still unsettled! I don’t have that crazy bond that I had with shows that I was part of since the beginning like Kasautii..., Swim Team and Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai. I joined the team when Covid struck, so we didn’t meet for a long time and when we did we were social distancing.

Your producer Ekta Kapoor is known to be quite a task master. What’s your rapport like?
I’m equally a task master. Everyone on set knows Pooja is one woman who can get work done. I can't be scared of anyone but I am a professional on set. I’m also funny and humorous when required. I’ve been into sports for 14 years before getting into acting, so I’ve always been disciplined.

You are also known to be a bookworm…
I’m currently reading Sin in the Game by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. I just finished The Spy by Paulo Coelho.
