Kavita Krishnamurthy reveals how she recorded Roop Tera Mastana

During the conversation, Shreya Ghoshal teases a fun trivia, “Main aapko ek chhota sa trivia batane waali hoon. Roop Tera Mastana ka ek version film Alaap ke liye Kavita ji ne gaya tha. Aur jab unhone humein yeh bataya, maine kaha ki yeh baat toh poori duniya ko pata honi chahiye." She urges Kavita to share it herself, calling it a "truly wonderful moment."

Kavita recounts, "Mujhe bahut sharam aati hain yeh baat kehne mein. Aisa hua tha ki Pancham da ne achanak mujhe raat ko phone kiya aur kaha, ‘Bara baje tum Film Centre aa jao.’" (I feel very embarrassed to share this. Pancham da called me suddenly one night and said, 'Come to Film Centre at 12 am)

"Main studio pahunchi toh wahan sirf 5-6 musicians the. Maine Pancham da ki taraf dekha aur poocha, ‘Kya gana hain?’ Unhone kaha, ‘Roop Tera Mastana.’ Maine turant apna handbag uthaya aur kaha, ‘Pancham da, woh Kishore da ka iconic gaana hai.. Main bewakoof hoon kya? Aap mujhe itna bada buddhu samajh rahe hain ki main mic ke paas jaakar yeh gaana gaaungi?” (I reached the studio and there were only 5-6 people there. I asked him what I had to sing and he said 'Roop Tera Mastana'. Immediately, I picked up my purse and said, 'Pancham da, that is Kishore da's iconic song. Do you think I am such an idiot that I will go sing this song?')

She continues, “Phir unhone Bengali mein kaha, ‘Tum aa gayi ho, ab tumhe mic ke paas jaakar gaana hi hoga.’ Aur phir maine yeh gaana film Alaap ke liye gaya.” (Then he said in Bengali, 'You have already come here, now you have to go near the mike and sing the song.' And then I sang this song for the film Alaap)
