Barkha Singh has won over the audience with her sweet and vibrant portrayals, especially on OTT. The actress has featured in multiple projects; however, her roles were mainly of the same type – a sweet, bubbly, enthusiastic girl-next-door. However, recently, the audience and fans got to see a different version of her. While still retaining her infectious charm and style, she played a more serious character, that of a lawyer in the acclaimed series, Criminal Justice 4. Here she plays Shivani, a curious and diligent lawyer, an associate of Adv. Madhav Mishra, played by Pankaj Tripathi.

When mid-day got a chance to sit with Barkha for a quick chat, we had to ask her about joining the popular web series franchise, which has seen immense success in the past seasons. Here is what she had to share.

Barkha Singh talks about a shift in character in Criminal Justice 4

We asked her what made her sign up for Criminal Justice 4 and how the change was for her compared to her previous roles. She tells us, “I was actually very excited, because it was a big shift from the kind of roles I've already done. Shivani's character is a lot more serious, no-nonsense, not bubbly, not jokey. So when Criminal Justice was offered to me, for me, it was a no-brainer. I asked no questions. I just said, yes. I actually told my agency, ‘Figure out the money, dates, and everything. I want to do this’.”

Noting why she was so instantly excited for the role, she listed down two reasons: “A, as an actor, I get to show a different side, like a more serious side. And B, obviously, it's a big show that has had three successful seasons in the past. And Pankaj Sir is actually a personal favourite. So to be his associate, I was like 100%.”

Barkha shares the funniest meme she's seen

During the chat, Barkha got candid and shared a funny meme she saw about her. She shares, I saw a meme saying, ‘Jaa raha hoon main chhota mota crime karne, lawyer sirf Barkha jaisi dena.’ (I am about to commit a crime, just give a lawyer like Barkha), in reference to criminal justice, which I found very funny.”

Praising memers, she says, “I think memers are the best. I think they have the smartest and wittiest brains.”

Barkha thinks Shivani is the closest to her personality

We asked her which of the roles she has played is similar to her actual personality. To this, she revealed, “I've not had roles yet that are very much similar to who I am as a person. I'd love to do it. That is yet to come.”

What comes closest, she shares, “I think Shivani still comes close enough to my actual personality, which is a little, like, just quieter. Because up till now, I've done a lot of bubbly roles. So everyone actually thinks I'm very, very bubbly.”

Criminal Justice 4, like its previous seasons, has been highly praised. Interestingly, Barkha also shared with us that before Criminal Justice, she had shot another investigative project, which is yet to come.
