Sony LIV is set to unveil the much-anticipated second season of Freedom at Midnight, the gripping historical drama that brought to life one of India’s most defining chapters. Season 2 delves deeper into the turbulent months that reshaped the subcontinent, capturing the high-stakes decisions in political power corridors as well as the human stories caught in the upheaval of a nation in transition.
Based on the acclaimed book by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins, Freedom at Midnight is an epic political thriller/drama that vividly brings to life pivotal moments from the year of India’s independence.
The series intricately weaves stories of key events and personalities who played instrumental roles in shaping the nation’s history. Produced by Emmay Entertainment in association with StudioNext, the show is helmed by Nikkhil Advani as the showrunner and director, with a compelling narrative crafted by Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Revanta Sarabhai, and Ethan Taylor.

About Freedom at Midnight Season 1
The series begins in the year 1946. The Muslim League, fronted by Mohammad Ali Jinnah (Arif Zakaria), is demanding a Sovereign Pakistan. India is on the brink of Independence, but it also faces the painful and dreadful possibility of the Indo-Pak Partition. Director Nikkhil Advani’s period drama sets this tone as soon as it opens. Thereafter, the seven episodes, each with a duration of approximately 42 minutes, depict an episode from the nation’s past that shaped its future.
