The entertainment industry is in shock following the sudden death of singer and actor Prashant Tamang, best known for winning Indian Idol season 3. He passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 43 in New Delhi, leaving fans, colleagues and the Gorkha community deeply saddened.

According to reports, Prashant was found unresponsive at his residence and was rushed to a hospital in Dwarka, where he was declared dead. While the exact cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed, initial reports suggest he may have suffered a cardiac arrest.


Born on January 4, 1983, in Darjeeling, West Bengal, Prashant’s life was marked by resilience and determination. After losing his father at a young age, he joined the Kolkata Police as a constable, following in his father’s footsteps. Alongside his duties, he performed with the police orchestra, where his musical talent began to shine.

Prashant rose to nationwide fame in 2007 after auditioning for Indian Idol. His journey on the show captured the hearts of millions, and he went on to win the third season with overwhelming public support. His victory was celebrated as a moment of pride for the Gorkha and Nepali-speaking communities, who rallied strongly behind him throughout the competition.

Following his success on Indian Idol, Prashant released his debut album and performed across India and internationally. He later expanded his career into acting, appearing in several Nepali films and building a steady presence on screen. In recent years, he gained wider recognition for his role as Daniel Lecho in the second season of the acclaimed web series Paatal Lok, where his performance was widely appreciated.
