If Rajit Kapur ever gets lost, there is one place he will always return to: stories. Over a four-decade career, the actor has travelled across mediums, formats, and languages in his pursuit of storytelling. So, it comes as little surprise that he will open the seventh edition of the Udaipur Tales International Storytelling Festival, where he will recite two stories and interact with a live audience. “As actors, we are the mediums of storytelling for the stage, camera, or platform. The beauty of this is that [there is an] interaction with a live audience,” he smiles. Kapur will perform Kachre Ki Hifazat by Ashok Mishra and Manju by Hussain Dalal at the three-day festival. “I have performed these on stage before. This time, I am using a basic set-up with music, which will allow the audience’s imagination to transport into the story,” he shares.

After the festival, Kapur will join the shoot of Storm, Hrithik Roshan’s first series as a producer. He tells mid-day that he is excited to surrender to director Ajitpal Singh, after admiring his craft for a long time. “I’ve seen Tabbar [2021] and I love how differently cinematic it was. [He] allows a certain weight to each actor. I will join him after a week. They’ve already started shooting,” he says.

Kapur last bonded with his co-stars, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Saba Azad, and Ashish Vidyarthi, when Prime Video arranged a meet-up for the entire cast. “It was an important evening to bond as a team. It creates harmony; and I’ve always seen some magic come out of it somewhere,” he says, recollecting his theatre days with Shyam Benegal.
