ZEE5 has released the first look of its upcoming original series, Chhal Kapat The Deception. Set during an intimate wedding in Burhanpur, the story takes a dark turn when one of the bride’s best friends is found dead. The celebration unravels into a tense whodunnit filled with secrets, resentment, and betrayal among lifelong friends.

Leading the investigation is Inspector Devika, played by Shriya Pilgaonkar, a sharp cop with a shadowy past and keen instincts. As buried truths emerge, relationships are put to the test, and the line between loyalty & deceit begins to blur.

Shriya Pilgaonkar on playing a cop

When Shriya Pilgaonkar got the opportunity to play a police officer for the first time, it was an easy yes. “My character Devika Rathore isn’t just an officer; she is someone haunted by a dark past, which, in turn, sharpens her investigative instincts. She sees what others might miss, not in spite of her past, but because of it,” she told Mid-day

“It’s exciting to portray a cop who breaks the mould — Devika is sharp, unapologetically foul-mouthed, and morally complex. Characters like her are rarely seen in this space, where officers are often portrayed as strictly black or white,” said the actor, who has portrayed fierce female characters in Guilty Minds (2022) and The Broken News.

More about Chhal Kapat The Deception

Directed by Ajay Bhuyan, produced by Juggernaut Production, and led by the dynamic Shriya Pilgaonkar, this gripping whodunnit also stars Kamya Ahlawat, Ragini Dwivedi, Tuhina Das, Yahhve Sharma, Pranay Pachauri, Smaran Sahu, and Anuj Sachdeva among others and is set to premiere on ZEE5 in June.

Shriya’s work front

Last year, Shriya joined the jury panel of the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) for the Shorts category at the 2024 edition of the festival.

She said in a statement at the time, “I am honoured and thrilled to be invited as a jury member for the short film category at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles 2024. I look forward to attending the festival in LA and watching these stellar shorts by emerging South Asian filmmakers”.

“The atmosphere at film festivals is always creatively energising and deeply inspiring. I’m excited to meet and interact with diverse storytellers and performers, and to witness the incredible lineup of films at IFFLA”, she added.
