Contemporary art organisation ArtOxygen is hosting [en]counters &mdash; Spaces in Transition, the sixth edition of their public art festival.

The event features site-specific works by Indian and international artists focussing on commuting along Mumbai&rsquo;s transportation networks. For this, the railways and cultural hubs have been animated with installations, participatory works, relational performances and guerrilla interventions (see fact box on masthead) by these artists. &nbsp;

The artist also maps distances travelled. Pic/Satyajit Desai Tushar Joag&rsquo;s project Lost and Found (?) Values of Democracy, invites children to create drawing books related to people&rsquo;s movements in India. The books will be coded and dispersed on trains. Reena Kallat&rsquo;s video, Synapse, shows people getting their eyes tested where the letters are unclear and the text is a deconstruction of the Preamble of the Indian Constitution.

Artist Kyungwoo Chun&rsquo;s piece invites commuters to give him objects that they would like to discard; these are marked with the owner&rsquo;s name, and placed on a table shaped in the form of CST. The table thus becomes a collection of untold histories.
Impressions of the Mindscape by Nobina Gupta records footprints of passengers getting off trains; the work looks at the psychological and physical collision happening during travel.

French artist Soazic Gu&eacute;zennec&rsquo;s The Settlement highlights the vulnerabilities of those living in temporary dwellings while Hema Upadhyay&rsquo;s Modernization offers an aerial view of an urban slum, depicting how it forms an integral part of the landscape.
