Dopamine is a drug that the body releases when one is high. Dopamine is also the name of a song by Mumbai-based Alternative and Post Grunge group, Blakc. Through catchy choruses and heavy riffs, the band has been wooing fans for a decade. Now, they will introduce a few unreleased tracks from their upcoming album, The Consequence of Feeling, at an unplugged gig tomorrow.
Unplugged challenge Blakc&rsquo;s songs are heavy and border around Metalcore, a genre that blends Metal with other sounds. The music attracts moshing &mdash; a style of slamdancing. But the band didn&rsquo;t face much trouble re-arranging them in the acoustic format.
&ldquo;Bands who are into sounds like Thrash and Death may find it difficult to do unplugged versions, but our songs have clean vocals. We have melodies and choruses that can be sung along to. That said, we do have to make an effort to rearrange the songs. We end up making multiple versions. A groove played on a drum kit will sound entirely different when played on a cajon,&rdquo; explains vocalist Shawn Pereira.
Songs for the night The album is set for a tentative release at the start of August, but a handful of songs are already popular with fans. &ldquo;Dopamine is a crowd favourite, and our well-wishers will expect a music video out of it once the album releases. It has a heavy intro, a bouncy chorus and a nice breakdown in the end. It shows people what we are like as musicians,&rdquo; adds the 30-year-old.
Disorder, one of the heavier songs, surprisingly made it to the unplugged catalogue. &ldquo;We never thought it could be played on an acoustic guitar. Reinhardt (Dias), our guitarist, cooked a nice groove and the song fit into it,&rdquo; says Pereira.
The band will also be playing a few interesting covers. &ldquo;We are all hooked to this band called Nothing But Thieves. So, we thought of playing one of their songs, known as Graveyard Whistling. There will be songs from Nine Inch Nails and our trademark Pearl Jam cover, Black,&rdquo; he reveals.
The mixing and mastering process of the album is set to start, and during this period, Pereira plans to brainstorm on the album art and marketing plans. &ldquo;Some vocal parts are still to be recorded but the bulk is complete. It is a three-way process &mdash; writing, recording and mixing, and, lastly, deciding how to facilitate the growth of the album.&rdquo;
