On Saturday morning, if you happen to be in the heritage precinct of Kala Ghoda, you'll find a bunch of pre-teens learning about Mumbai's first planned business district and the church after which Churchgate is named.
They will be part of an hour-long heritage walk conducted by the team at Khaki Tours, including historian Farrokh Jijina, conservation architect Tapan Mittal and founder Bharat Gothoskar. The second edition of the kids' walk, it is open to those aged nine to 14 years.

"The intent is to make children aware of the city's legacy in a way that they can understand. We make the trail simple by using references from cartoons and movies," says Gothoskar.
The trail begins from the steps of Asiatic Library at Horniman Circle and ends at Somaiya Centre at Hutatma Chowk. After the walk, kids can engage in two sessions - essay writing and sketching. While the former requires them to pen a summary of the walk, the sketching session will see them replicate something from memory and make a map of their route. "This is to teach them how to orient themselves," says Mittal. The team will provide a vegetarian snack box and water during the event.
