There aren’t many podcasts out there quite like this one. Currently 36 episodes in, the 'On Wednesdays We Wear Black' podcast series is the ultimate culmination of all things alternative, hosted by radio presenter Sophie K, musician and presenter Alyx Holcombe, and metal journalist Yasmine Sumann. It’s an unfiltered gaze at concepts like sex, rock and metal music, gender, racism and a whole lot more, wrapped in a 45-minute chatty segment.
The podcast was a welcome change in terms of genre and content. There’s not much of a difference in the format of delivery, but hearing the three hosts talk about topics like mental health, gender and identity felt inclusive, which is the only way to put it. Through episodes like Gender 101, host Sumann opened up to listeners about their experiences with gender and sexuality, by taking questions from listeners. The episode, like many in the series, was raw and informational, like a safe space, which was ultimately the aim of the show.
