A day after India’s Sunburn music festival announced that it would be moving to Mumbai for the 2025 edition, the EDM music festival’s CEO Karan Singh has revealed that the move to the Maximum City from Goa has come after “thoughtful consideration of logistical, infrastructural, regulatory factors, as also the suggestions from our community.”

When mid-day reached out to Singh, the festival promoter said Goa has been an inseparable part of Sunburn’s journey for nearly two decades.” Over the last 18 years, the CEO said the sunshine state has given the festival a home when large-scale dance music experiences were still finding their feet in India and helped it grow into one of Asia’s biggest electronic dance music festivals. “Over the years, Sunburn shaped Goa’s reputation as a vibrant music tourism destination, contributed to the local economy and put India firmly on the global festival map. Goa will always remain an integral chapter in our story, it’s where Sunburn found its spirit and built a legacy we’ll always cherish.”

However, he added that every legacy must move forward. “After thoughtful consideration of logistical, infrastructural, regulatory factors, as also the suggestions from our community, we believe it is the right moment to explore new possibilities for Sunburn’s future.”

At a time when Mumbai has only grown to feature some of the biggest global artists including Coldplay, Cigarettes After Sex, Maroon 5, Ed Sheeran and Guns N’ Roses till now in the calendar year followed by the likes of Enrique Iglesias, Travis Scott, Passenger and The Smashing Pumpkins later this year, it has showcased the city’s true love for music in more than one way, and the crows at the concert is proof. “Mumbai, with its unmatched infrastructure, deep connection to youth culture and its excitable, creative energy that mirrors Sunburn’s own was the unmatched, right fit for this next chapter. It’s where our free-spirited, boundary-pushing DNA can thrive, while reaching new audiences and staying true to the community that made Sunburn what it is today. We look forward to keeping this connection alive wherever we go, and to continuing to shape India’s festival culture together.”

The festival will take place in Mumbai from December 19 – 21. The tickets open for all starting August 14.
