The annual Bannari Kundam (fire walking) festival was held peacefully at Bannariamman Temple in Erode, Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday. Devotees from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, including farmers and women with children, walked over the sacred fire. Heavy police presence ensured safety during the event

The annual Kundam (Fire walking) festival was celebrated on Tuesday with religious fervour at Bannari in this district. The popular festival was conducted peacefully at Bannariamman temple, located 10 km away from Sathyamangalam at 3 am.

Thousands of devotees from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka (especially from Mysore, Kollehal, Chamrajnagar etc) participated in the fire walking. Some farmers walked along with their cattle. Some women carried their children with them and walked over the 'kundam'.


Heavy police pickets were posted to avert any untoward incident.
