<img style="float: left;" src="http://images.mid-day.com/images/2015/sep/the-guide-logo.gif" alt="" width="150" height="36" />On the eve of Republic Day, the quadrangle of St Xavier&rsquo;s College at CST will emanate with a range of Indian Classical sounds as Janfest 2016 gets underway. The two-day festival is an annual event organised by the student-run Indian Music Group, founded in 1973 with the support of Ustad Alla Rakha.

The fest will begin with a tribute to the late tabla maestro by Taufiq Qureshi, Yogesh Samsi (tabla), Sridhar Parthasarthy (mridangam) and Sukhad Munde (pakhawaj). &ldquo;For me, visiting the college brings back nostalgic memories as the festival is one of the oldest music conferences of Mumbai. It is such a pleasure to perform in the quadrangle surrounded by the gothic structures all around,&rdquo; shares Qureshi.

The first evening will also feature performances by Hindustani vocalist Devaki Pandit and Mohan Veena exponent Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. On January 26, santoor maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma will preside over an early morning session while the evening will witness a performance by Sangeet Natya Akademi awardee Pandit Ajay Pohankar followed by a grand finale with Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, joined by his sons, Amaan and Ayaan.
