The mild October weather calls for a lazy lunch. Try this one out in Vasant Kunj Amusing things happen by mid October. Blame it on the pleasant, nippy mornings but androgynous middle-aged women shopping in malls suddenly seem feminine. Telemarketers sound sweet and movie stars with fake accents become bearable. Yes, there is definitely something about the October breeze which makes you realise the world isn't as dreadful as advertised. <img alt="" src="/imagedata/2011/oct/off1.jpg" border="5" /> Going Al fresco: The terrace tables outside are popular among the patrons On such a mid October day, I sat in Tasty Tangles in DLF Promenade in Vasant Kunj, under a parasol waiting to be served Roasted duck- Singapore style with hoisin sauce. I had already polished off their Wasabi prawns by then. Deep fried, but an indulgence I gave in to. Diet Another Day, wasn't the MI6 spy flick about North Korean delicacies or was about conflict diamonds? Oh, never mind.u00a0 The point is store-bought Wasabi paste or fresh from Kyoto or for that matter China or New Zealand, I had relished the prawns.u00a0 Then there was the Curry laska with chicken and prawn. Curry laska, the coconut based curry soup popular in Malaysia as well as in Singapore was spicy but not spicy enough as I expected. Interestingly, the word laska I have been told was derived from the Sanskrit word lakshas meaning a lakh referring to the vermicelli put into this soup. I don't know how true it is but like I said on a mid October lunch everything seems feasible. This pan Asian restaurant also serves Broccoli with vegetarian oyster sauce.u00a0 This specialty of theirs is simple, light on your stomach and compliments the non- vegetarian poultry you are served here for a main course. But if I ever had to come back here it wouldn't be for the Cuban Cooler (dark rum, pineapple, orange juice, coconut cream and dash of grenadine syrup) I sipped as I sat under the October sun as a bunch of Harley riders passed by (the Harley Davidson showroom is in the same mall). Or the fried ice cream with which I ended my meal. It would be simply for that one thing called Roasted duck- Singapore style with hoisin sauce. Yes, I know they have it at the Noodle House also and since Tasty Tangles is country cousin they serve it here as well. It is not your traditional Peking duck (thus the 'Singapore' style) so it not crispy, (in fact the meat is a little dry). But like I said it isn't your Peking duck, so relish it that way, slowly taking your time without being too finicky. Would I drop in again here, alone? Yes! With vegetarian friends? No! The menu is limited when it comes to vegetarian dishes, again for someone who just flirts with prawns ands chicken (and duck) Tasty Tangles is a good enough option but for those who really crave meat, the options are limited. But I guess even if all your wishes weren't fulfilled there'll be the October Sun under the parasol for you to enjoy.
