Rock band Agnee, comprising Mumbai-based 36 year-old Ram Mohan and 42 year-old Koco, based in Pune, is best known for their debut album Agnee, featuring songs like Sadho Re and Shaam Tanha. The duo has now earned a new tag &mdash; that of music directors.u00a0u00a0After composing some great music for the recent film Cocktail and the critically-acclaimed 2010 film, Udaan, Mohan and Koco are a proud duo. They have also sung The Roadies Song, and the theme song for Splitsvilla Season two and three among others. <img alt="" src="/imagedata/2012/jul/Agnee.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 345px; " /> Rock band Agnee&rsquo;s Ram Mohan and Koco in performance The pair got their first big break in 2007 when they were signed by Sony BMG. &ldquo;We really struggled to choose a band name back then. We didn&rsquo;t even have a name when Sony BMG signed us on. We were first going to call the band Altamas, which means &lsquo;wild mountain flower&rsquo;. But later, we decided to call the band Agnee,&rdquo; says Koco. u00a0It began at their friends&rsquo; wedding in 2002. During the sangeet, Mohan was asked to sing a qawwali. Koco was called on stage to accompany Mohan with his guitar. Thereafter, the two bumped into each other in Mumbai. In 2005, Koco was already playing for a band called Shankara. At one of the band&rsquo;s performances, Mohan was invited to play along as percussionist and, that&rsquo;s the day he joined the band. Later in 2007, Mohan, who was then working in the retail business in Deutsche Bank, and Koco, who had been part of the India&rsquo;s famous Rock band Agni since 1991, decided to put together their very own band, Agnee. Mohan is the lead vocalist and Koco is the lead guitarist of the band. u00a0&ldquo;We like to experiment with our music,&rdquo; says Mohan, &ldquo;which makes it harder to categorise our band as a certain type of genre. But put loosely, we are best categorised as an Indie-Rock band.&rdquo;u00a0About being labelled as Bollywood music directors, Mohan says, &ldquo;Earlier, Bollywood was about a certain style of music, where the playback singer&rsquo;s voice was recognised by the face on screen. But today Bollywood is looking for music that is off-beat and playback singers who are versatile. I guess this is why film directors are coming to us for their music.&rdquo; Agnee has sung an item number for Allap, which releases on July 27. They have also worked on a Punjabi film called Sarsa and a critically-acclaimed Marathi film called Shala. u00a0The band has toured the country. &ldquo;The response in Gujarat has been the best and in other cities our fan base is continually growing.&rdquo; The band has also played in Thailand.u00a0u00a0At Bluefrog, the duo will perform songs such as Dil Ye Awaaz De and Ek Nayi Roshni, among others. On stage, you will see Rishikesh Datar on the drums, Jamir as base guitarist, Sanket Sane and Aditya Pushkarna on the keyboard in addition to Mohan as lead vocalist and Koco as lead guitarist.
