The name Remember Shakti is derived from John McLaughlin's acoustic Indian fusion band Shakti, which was active in the 1970s. u00a0 The Remember Shakti tour takes place every alternate year but this year the tour is back after a hiatus of six years. Commenting on the experience of performing with John McLaughlin, Ustad Zakir Hussain says, "Performing with John is like playing with an Indian musician. u00a0 He has studied Indian Classical music and figured out how we work, how we think and what our improvising techniques are. I have also had the good fortune of studying and understanding the Western ways of musical thinking be it Jazz, Pop or Rock. What's fabulous is that my connection with John hasn't changed. I never feel like I am working with someone strange from a different tradition and he doesn't feel that way either."
