The newly inaugurated Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune saw its first international cricket match yesterday in the form of the DLF IPL match between Pune Warriors and Kings XI Punjab. <img alt="" src="/imagedata/2012/apr/steven.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 484px; " /> Steven Smith in action when Pune Warriors India played against Punjab Kings XI. Pic/ Suresh KK Puneites had more than adequate reason to cheer as the Pune Warriors, who were playing their first match on homeground, marched to a convincing victory against Punjab. The crowd was excited right from the opening ceremony. Preity Zinta, who was performing on stage after a gap of three and a half years, took to the stage at the opening ceremony and mesmerised the audience with her dance moves. Other performers included cultural dancers, dhol and tutari players and 100 lezim dancers who enthralled the audience. Performances by Bollywood actors Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Dia Mirza, Neha Dhupia, Sameera Reddy and Jacqueline Fernandez proved to be a complete treat for Puneites. The stadium, which has a capacity of 40,000 people was filled to the brim and the roads leading to the stadium, were filled with people and vehicles creating a traffic jam. People scrambled to get tickets, but many had to turn back disappointed. Those who got tickets did not mind the crowd, traffic or all the trouble they had to take to reach the venue. Talking about the stadium, actor Mandira Bedi said that this is one of the best stadiums she had seen not only in the country but internationally as well. The stadium and the seating arrangement had been designed in such a way that an unobstructed view is assured from each and every location making it a perfect viewing experience. No wonder, Puneites who had watched the match at the stadium, returned home with a smile on their face and are waiting anxiously for the next match in their hometown.u00a0
