As a taxpayer, I don&rsquo;t feel happy. Not just because of how the recent budget undermined the growing inflation rate, but also because how &lsquo;taxing&rsquo; the whole process of filing income tax returns continues to be.

Though, the recent modifications in the Income Tax Department websites - Incometaxindia.gov.in and Incometaxefiling.gov.in - have made it a tad easier to browse for information, the websites are still not mobile-friendly. Thankfully, there&rsquo;s an alternative called MyITreturn, an Android app built by Skorydov Systems Pvt. Ltd.
The app serves as a good platform to stay updated about your income tax return details &mdash; pending returns, status of new returns, acknowledgement receipts or previous returns. It also informs you about your income tax assessment officer, and comes with an in-built calculator, which is easy to use and calculates the income tax payable for the current as well as the upcoming assessment years, in detail.
The app uses a One-Time Password (OTP) to authenticate its users. Its website (Myitreturn.com) claims to have been verified by the IT Department, however, we are not sure how many Indians would be willing to trust a private organisation with their Pan card details. But then, MyITreturn claims to already have a user base of 8,50,000 people. The app makers are also seeking permission from the IT department to facilitate e-filing of income tax.
