One of William Shakespeare’s most popular works, Romeo and Juliet, premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1979 under the watchful direction of Yuri Grigorovich.

The ballet was a revival of the original work written by Sergei Prokfiev and featured Grigorovich’s wife Natalia Bessmertnova as Juliet. The two-act play became an instant hit, but was stopped after Grigorovich was forced to quit Bolshoi Theatre.

This current version is a revival of Grigorovich’s 1979 version of Romeo and Juliet by the choreographer himself and will see Anna Nikulina as Juliet and Alexander Volchkov as Romeo with Andrei Anikhanov taking on the role of the conductor.
