Shekhawati artists in Rajasthan, inspired by their colonial masters, started doing collage work that juxtaposed Hindu gods and scenes from Indian mythology in modern European settings. Nearly a century later, some of the best creations have been re-discovered and are now on display at a city gallery

Imagine Lord Shiva meditating in the Mediterranean region, or the Ashok Vatika, (where Sita was held captive) transform into alpine backdrop. These are the collages that Shekhawati artists created a century ago - long before the advent of digital prints and photoshop.
