Skoda has launched the mid-life face-lift version of its highly- acclaimed Superb limo. The D-segment car is a leader within its class, and has always been known to offer terrific value. For its face-lifted avatar, the Skoda Superb gets visual changes some additional features. On the downside, its prices have increased too.

On the outside, the new Superb gets redesigned head and tail-lamps. While the tail-lamps on all the variants of the new model feature LED technology, only the higher spec Elegance variant features LED daytime running lights in the headlamps. The car also gets a news &lsquo;Helix&rsquo; design for its 16-inch alloy wheels. Traces of design cues from the recently- launched Octavia are evident on the Superb, with the new Skoda logo receiving its own space on the engine hood, forming a kink into the grille, which itself is new.
On the inside, not much has changed, with Skoda leaving the plush, luxurious cabin of the Superb largely untouched. The three-spoke steering wheel is new. The beige interiors are clothed in Nappa leather. The sunroof adds to the cabin&rsquo;s airiness and the overall build quality is impressive. The face-lifted Superb comes with a great sounding &lsquo;Bolero&rsquo; audio player with CD changer and SD/MMC slot. The USB slot remains sorely missed.
Back seat legroom remains incredible as ever, with comfortable seats and a central armrest enhancing the luxurious feel. No other car matches it for legroom, which makes it one of the best chauffeur driven limos in the market. Skoda cars have always been known to offer cavernous boot space and the Superb is no different. At 565 litres, it has more space than what a family of four or five would require.
The new Superb is powered by two engine options. There is a 1.8-litre TSI petrol and a 2.0 TDI diesel powering the car. The 1.8 TSI petrol motor delivers a peak power output of 160 bhp between 4,500-6,200 rpm, and peak torque rated at 250 Nm between 1,500-4,500 rpm. The 2.0 TDI diesel delivers 140 bhp of power at 4,200 rpm and 320 Nm of peak torque between 1,750-2,500 rpm. the car&rsquo;s variants come with 205/55 R16 rubber.
The petrol engine is offered with two transmission options: a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG auto. The diesel engine is offered only with a 6 speed DSG auto box.
Skoda has started the prices from Rs 18.87 lakh for the base 1.8 TSI Ambition variant. The prices go all the way up to Rs 25.20 lakh for the top of the line 2.0 TDI Elegance variant. Those prices may be slightly steeper than the model it replaces, but the Skoda Superb even today represents unmatched value, and it&rsquo;s next to impossible to get so much technology and features in such a spacious, luxurious and well-sorted package.
