At every stage, children face daunting hurdles, yet they stay silent and bear it all. Growing up is a very unique experience and this unique experience of growing up is described through artwork this time in an exhibition named Roop Katha. <img alt="" src="/imagedata/2011/oct/car123456.jpg" border="5" /> A painting by Lalu Prasad Shaw The exhibition features artists like Sanjay Bhattacharya, Seema Kohli, Anjolie Ela Menon, Jayasri Burman, K.Laxma Goud, K.S. Radhakrishna, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Manu Parekh, Madhvi Parekh, Neeraj Goswami, Paresh Maity, Sakti Burman, Shuvaprasanna, Thota Vaikuntam who will be showing their collection on what they understand about childhood. <img alt="" src="/imagedata/2011/oct/kite.jpg" border="5" /> Anjolie Ela Menon's work "Carcasses of burned buses, rickshaws, paan shops and at least one KFC joint seem to have a calming effect on the population. Newspapers start predicting 'Normalcy limping back to the city' as if normalcy had gone for a picnic and sprained an ankle. Mohammed Hanif's new novel Our Lady of Alice Bhatti sums up succinctly the angst and anguish of Gen-next, grappling with terrorist attacks and bloodshed that makes it difficult to remember the last anniversary of a particularly gruesome attack. Yet in the aftermath 9/11, there is quiet hope, the candles signify a new beginning. Dare we hope there is light at the end of the tunnel?" says Ina Puri, curator. Says artist Sanjay Bhattacharya: "I live on art and for art. I do all kinds of work whether it's figurative, artistic, architectural or inspirational. And for me everybody is an artist. You can't ignore art in your daily life, no matter who you are and what you do. Even when you look at things and have an opinion about it that is the artist in you who speaks." Talking about his inspiration he adds: "The theme given to us was fairytales. I took inspiration from the characters of the book Tales my grandmother told me and painted them my way. Kids have liked my collection so far and hence I am satisfied because this is an exhibition for kids." About his paintings he states: "I have made one line drawings. They are generally black and white lines and I have used some bright colours to enhance the whole thing. And when it comes to colours, I have just used water colour impressions and nothing else." Seema Kohli, another artist who feels art is her language says, "The exhibition for me is not about fairytales. It's about the stories that you have heard being a child. I spent my childhood with my grandfather and he was a very spiritual man. And that explains my inspiration which is on the fourth woman of Islam. It's about the times when there was no disparity around." So, go watch this exhibition as you dig up a deep meaning of the simple looking childhood.
