Following other carmakers in India, domestic carmaker Tata Motors recently hiked the prices across its range of products by up to Rs 12,000 in order to offset rising input costs.
"We have hiked prices of our passenger vehicles by one per cent ranging between Rs 5,000 and Rs 12,000 due to rising input costs," president of Tata Motors&rsquo; Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Mayank Pareek, told PTI.
Just like other manufacturers, who have taken similar decisions lately, Tata Motors said that the prices of raw materials such as steel and zinc have gone up, prompting the company to take such a step.
Tata&rsquo;s portfolio in India includes a variety of products, ranging from the entry-level <a href="https://www.cardekho.com/carmodels/Tata/Tata_Nano" target="_blank">Nano</a> to the crossover <a href="https://www.cardekho.com/carmodels/Tata/Tata_Aria" target="_blank">Aria</a>, with prices stretching between the Rs 2.15 lakh-Rs 16.3 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) bracket.
Tata has most recently launched the <a href="https://www.cardekho.com/carmodels/Tata/Tata_Tiago" target="_blank">Tiago</a> hatchback, debuting its new design language for cars. The Tiago has helped the home-grown automaker record heartening sales numbers in the recent past. The company is now readying the launch of the <a href="https://www.cardekho.com/carmodels/Tata/Tata_Hexa" target="_blank">Hexa</a> that will replace the Aria and will be the next step in Tata Motors&rsquo; portfolio revamp.
Speaking of other carmakers, country&rsquo;s top two manufacturers - Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India &ndash; have both gone on to increase prices across their portfolios by Rs 20,000.
Tata&rsquo;s domestic rival Mahindra &amp; Mahindra had also announced a rise in prices by up to one per cent last month, effective from the month of October.
